There were lots of additional prizes, too – such as dinner for two, comedy tickets, haircuts and hampers – but the big one that everyone wanted to win was the fantastic £600 bespoke computer from PC Repair Glasgow!

On the day, the Find Me Glasgow dog Shug plucked out a name with his paw, and we’re delighted to announce that Kirsten Ramsay from Old Kilpatrick was our lucky winner. As Kirsten’s household had recently purchased a desktop computer, we agreed to provide a laptop as an alternative and last week we delivered this to Kirsten in her home so we could take her through all aspects of the initial set-up and make sure it was just right for her. And as you can see, Kirsten looks very happy with her shiny new laptop. Our congratulations to Kirsten, and a massive thanks to everyone who came along on the day!

The day wouldn’t have been a success without SIFE, with students from Strathclyde University helping us promote the Treasure Hunt all across Glasgow, as well as looking after our young participants on the day. Likewise, our friends at Find Me Glasgow were fantastic at arranging the prizes and organising the hunt. At the end of the day, the remainder of our chocolate eggs were donated to Yorkhill Hospital. We hoped to spread some Easter cheer there too and we absolutely succeeded!

All you have to do is make your way down to George Square on Saturday the 7th of April between 11am and 2pm, where you will find his friends giving out the treasure maps.

Shug will be at the end of the hunt waiting for with chocolate eggs for the first 200 people. Crack the clues to follow his paw prints and uncover the 6 secret letters along the way to find the hidden chocolate treasure.

Anyone who finds all six letters (clues) to create the ‘Glasgow’ themed word can enter the prize draw that will take place when the hunt finishes at 2.30pm.

The top prize is a custom built PC (worth £600) courtesy of PC Repair Glasgow. We have a load of other great prizes including meals for 2, chocolate hampers and comedy club tickets.

We’ve come a long way since our managing director Nick Cohen started the empire from his own bedroom in 2004.

Eight years on, Nick manages a staff of eight, two PC Repair shops and sister company PCR Business – and offers a huge additional range of services, not just the repair of PC desktops.

Nick says “I’m really proud of what PC Repair and my great team of IT experts have achieved over the years. But – as our picture shows – we’re definitely too big for the bed now so thank goodness the days of repairing from my house are well past!”

So if you pop into our Glasgow South Side and City Centre locations, feel free to wish us a happy birthday – but go easy on the birthday nips and bumps! Nick adds: “We can’t promise there’ll be any birthday cake left but want to say thanks to all of our customers for supporting us and helping us to grow.”

What does this mean? Well – from March 1st Google can share any data it has on your searches, site visits etc with its other products – such as YouTube or Google+

Search data isn’t just about that important work-related desk research, as we all know – in fact it could reveal your location, sexual orientation, health concerns and, well, just about anything else. Bearing this in mind you might want to consider stopping Google from recording your web history in the future. It just takes a couple of minutes, here’s how:

1. Sign into your Google account.

2. Go to https://www.google.com/history

3. Click “remove all Web History.”

4. Click “ok.”

5. Do this for any of your Google accounts.

But as he’s currently travelling in Asia, he’ll be hooking up the mobile technology to keep an eye on the Scottish Business Awards results and – of course – will be wearing his virtual dinner suit to mark the occasion!

Nick has been nominated in the Young Entrepreneur of the Year category and the PC Repair and PCR Businesses have been scrutinised over the last few months by a prestigious judging panel chaired by Duncan Bannatyne.

Nick says “We are delighted to be at this stage and among some of the best known Scottish businesses also shortlisted for the various categories.” He adds “It’s disappointing not to be there for the event but I’ll be looking out for tweets and web announcements and I know my technology won’t let me down!”

Our total donation of £180 was raised by team member contributions which are made annually in ‘exchange’ for attending the company’s Christmas party and the recipient charity was a decision by the whole team.

Nick explains:

“It was a unanimous vote in favour of YCF. It’s a very worthwhile cause and one which is close to all of our hearts.”

For us it’s a particularly exciting start to 2012, as our sister company PCR Computer Services – which provides full IT support for businesses – has become PCR Business.

IT is constantly changing and the company’s new name symbolises how we as a company embrace and continually master these changes, to help businesses work smarter and faster. But it’s not just cosmetic – we’ve been working hard behind the scenes, planning and streamlining new systems to help the PCR Business team to respond quicker, to allocate the best skills and resources and, simply, to keep on making sure that IT is the last thing our clients need to worry about.

We’re confident that customers and clients of both PC Repair and PCR Business will benefit even more from our smart-working range of services. We look forward to helping you, or your business, in 2012.
